After passing through Mesen, a signpost points to five CWGC cemeteries, including Toronto Avenue. Park beside the first cemetery, Prowse Point, and follow the track on foot past Mud Corner Cemetery and into the wood. Toronto Avenue Cemetery is off a short branch to the left.

About the cemetery

Toronto Avenue Cemetery's name is misleading. It was named after one of the paths running through Plug Street Wood, but has no connection with Canada. Toronto Avenue is the only all-Australian cemetery in Belgium, and one of only two on the entire Western Front (the other being VC Corner Cemetery in France). It is made up of the graves of 78 officers and men from the Australian 9th Brigade (3rd Division) who were killed during the Battle of Messines between June 7th and 10th 1917.

Total burials: 78
